Library is at 300 North Harvard St., Allston.

Kosher Day food tasting on Sept. 12
Did you
know that more than 75,000 products are certified kosher in the United States
today? More than half of the shoppers that purchase kosher products on a regular
basis are not Jewish. Of the 28 percent of consumers who knowingly purchase
kosher products, only 8 percent do so for religious reasons. There's a good
chance that your favorite breakfast cereals, tortilla chips or fruit juices are
kosher.
Processed
foods that are certified kosher must contain only kosher ingredients and be
manufactured under the supervision of a reliable certifying agency.
Health-conscious consumers seeking products free of unnecessary or harmful
ingredients often choose those with the kosher stamp of approval.
From noon
to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, the Whole Foods Market, 15 Washington St. in
Brighton, will host its first "Kosher Day" event featuring activities and food
tastings that the whole family can enjoy. Rabbi Shmuel Posner from the Chabad
House of Greater Boston will be on hand to answer questions and lead kosher
tours of the store.
Children's
activities and scavenger hunts are planned to celebrate the Jewish holidays and
educate youngsters about kosher products. Holiday foods, including plenty of
apples, honey and round challahs, will be available for sampling. Customers will
also have the opportunity to purchase holiday gift bags for low-income senior
citizens in the local community.

Travel to Ireland and run for kids
The West
End House Boys and Girls Club invites you to help urban youth fulfill their
dreams.
The club is
organizing a marathon team to run the Dublin Marathon in October and will
provide weekly training, group runs, support, travel and more, as runners fund
raise for youth development programs.
The Dublin
City Marathon is run through the historic Georgian streets of Dublin, Ireland's
largest city and capital. The course is largely flat and is a single lap,
starting and finishing close to the city center. The fans, a supportive West End
staff, and your fellow teammates will provide all the motivation you need to
make it to the end.
Funds
raised will support the club's programs, which serve 1,200 young people age 6-18
each year. Through a wide range of activities in education, technology,
leadership development, the arts and athletics, the club transforms critical
after-school and summer hours into opportunities for at-risk youth. For many
young members, the club is a safe haven from the streets and a place where they
can have a hot meal, receive help with their homework, meet new friends and
learn new things like Web design or ballet.

Listing service aids business property owners,
leasers
The
Department of Neighborhood Development has a service for neighborhood commercial
property owners, business start-ups and existing businesses needing to expand or
relocate.
The
Commercial Space for Lease Finder is a convenient, free-of-charge internet
service that puts entrepreneurs in touch with property owners, brokers or
managers who have available space. In addition to street-front properties in
commercial areas, the Commercial Space for Lease Finder provides exposure for
properties that are often difficult to locate, such as back-office spaces or
basement work and storage areas.
Created by
DND's Office of Business Development, the Commercial Space for Lease Finder
provides a unique link between property owners who have available inventory with
business owners and entrepreneurs who are seeking commercial/retail space in
Boston's neighborhood business districts.
Property
owners with available space may complete a form attached to the city's Web page
listing information such as location, usage, area, availability, lease rates and
contact information. Business owners, entrepreneurs and nonprofits can scan
listings for ones that meet their needs and contact the property owner, broker
or manager.
Though the
city maintains this electronic bulletin board, it has no role in
negotiations.
The
Commercial Space for Lease Finder is on the city of Boston Web site at
www.cityofboston.gov/dnd/U_Commercial_Space_For_Lease.asp. For more information,
call the Office of Business Development at 617-635-2000.
